Matcha latte with bourbon vanilla cold foam

Ingredients + materials needed -

• Matcha bowl, whisk, scoop, and strainer

• Ceremonial matcha powder

• 1/2 to 1 tsp. sweetener of choice (our personal favorite is blue agave)

• Small pinch of salt

• 1/4 c. half & half or heavy whipping cream

• 1 spoonful of Trader Joe’s bourbon vanilla bean paste

• Electric frother

• 1 cup milk of choice (we love lactose-free or while milk)

Directions -

1. Heat up some water. Place your matcha whisk in a mug. Pour the warm water over the whisk bristles until the level reaches just under the black tie. Soaking the whisk softens the tines, making the whisk more flexible and less likely to break.

2. While the whisk is soaking, place the metal strainer over the matcha bowl. Use the bamboo scoop to place 3-4 scoops of matcha onto the strainer. The amount of matcha you use is always up to personal preference, so don’t be afraid to experiment here.

3. Use the bamboo scoop to and strainer to sift the powder into the matcha bowl. Sifting prevents clumps and makes it easier to evenly whisk your matcha + helps the micro-foam develop!

4. Add a small pinch of salt and 1/2 to 1 tsp of agave to the bowl. Salt balances out the sweetness of the matcha while adding depth to the flavor. Sweetness level is another element of personal preference to experiment with!

5. Pour 40g of room temperature water into your bowl. Use your matcha whisk to whisk the matcha, water, salt, and agave in quick “W” motions for 30 seconds until you see small bubbles form (we call this micro-foam!). Be careful not to press too hard or you may damage the delicate whisk.

6. Set your matcha bowl aside.

7. Grab a glass cup and fill it with 1/4 cup half & half or heavy whipping cream. Add a small spoonful of Trader Joe’s bourbon vanilla bean paste.

8. Use an electric frother to froth the cream and vanilla until thick.

9. Grab a new cup and fill it with ice.

10. Pour your matcha mixture over the ice. Then, pour your cream mixture over the matcha.

11. Enjoy your matcha latte with bourbon vanilla cold foam!
