Matcha Iced Green Tea Latte Recipe: How to Make the Perfect Iced Matcha Latte at Home

Everyday Iced Matcha Tea Latte Recipe

Ingredients + materials needed -

  • Matcha bowl, whisk, scoop, and strainer

  • Ceremonial matcha powder

  • 1 tsp. sweetener of choice (our personal favorite is blue agave)

  • Small pinch of salt

  • 4 tbsp. of water (split)

  • 3/4 c. milk of choice (we love lactose-free or oat milk)

  • Optional cold foam:

    • 1/8 c. half & half

    • Electric frother

Directions

  1. Optional - Soak your whisk: heat up 2 cups of water. Place your matcha whisk in a mug. Pour the warm water over the whisk bristles until the level reaches just under the black tie. Soaking the whisk softens the tines, making the whisk more flexible and less likely to break.

  2. Place the metal strainer over the matcha bowl. Use the bamboo scoop to place 3-4 scoops (about 1.5 teaspoons) of matcha into the strainer. The amount of matcha you use is always up to personal preference, so don’t be afraid to experiment here.

  3. Use the bamboo scoop and strainer to sift the powder into the matcha bowl.

  4. Pour 1 tablespoon of warm water over your matcha powder. Use your matcha whisk to create a matcha paste by incorporating the matcha powder and water together slowly. Once the paste is formed, pour the remaining 2 tbsp. of water into the mixture.

  5. Use your matcha whisk to whisk the matcha in quick “W” motions for 1-2 minutes or until you see your mixture thicken and small bubbles form (we call this micro-foam!). Add a small pinch of salt and your sweetener. Continue whisking. Be careful not to press too hard or you may damage the delicate whisk.

  6. Set your matcha bowl aside.

  7. Optional - Create a cold foam: grab a glass cup and pour in 1/8 c. half and half. Use an electric frother to froth the cream until thick.

  8. Grab another cup and fill it with ice and milk. Slowly pour your matcha mixture over the milk. Then, pour your cream over the matcha.

  9. Now, you have a perfect everyday iced matcha latte. Enjoy!
